Welcome to the Art Therapy Program at the New Vista Society! Mrs. Natalia Russell is our Director of the Creative Art Therapy Program.

 

 

 

 

Here at the New Vista Society we have many budding artists, experienced artists and art lovers. Natalia is proud to offer one on one art therapy and art workshops to all villages, along with an art workshop for Cranberry Cottage Clients.

Cranberry Clients have learned the process of Watercolor through creative instinct, colour mixing, brush techniques, observation, and composition. Natalia has facilitated Watercolour Landscape classes, Self Portraiture, Abstract Expressionism and plain old finger painting!

 

 

 

 

Natalia has also implemented intergenerational Creative Art Therapy Groups. In spring of 2006 Natalia invited a group of Burnaby Homeschoolers to join our creative residents in a journey through the oceans. We learnt about the habitat and lives of Orca whales. Our 6 week program ended with a splash at the Vancouver Aqarium where our residents were soaked by the dolphins! What a great time! Our group also finished the paper mache ORCA project we facilitated here in the Hobby Room. The Orcas are still looking for a place to be displayed.

 

 

 

 

 

Mrs. Russell has encouraged Artists in Residence to create independently, as well as in one on one and group programs. She has facilitated Independent Workstations throughout New Vista to those who have expressed interest beyond the Creative Art Program.

 

 

 

 

 

We currently have 13 stations; in Rose Garden, Cypress Grove and Willow Place. From markers, to sketchbooks, to canvas, to watercolours and inspiration binders, our residents have endless creative possibilities through independent expression.

We are also proud to offer Art History Presentations every 4 months in the Fireside Lounge on the Main Floor. We encourage all residents to attend to learn something interesting and new about Art History. We have already had two presentations by Mrs. Russell; Mary Cassatt and Edgar Degas. Our next presentation is of the very amazing Claude Monet.

Natalia is currently working with the New Vista team to frame and mount residents work in all villages. What a great way to decorate our walls! The talent at New Vista is great and growing! Stay tuned for the next New Vista Art Show!
