How to Make a Donation

Some of the many forms that your gift may take include:

Unrestricted Donations:

If you would like to make a difference in the lives of New Vista’s residents, clients and tenants, but do not necessarily wish to contribute to our current capital campaign or to a specific area, you may make an unrestricted donation. Unrestricted donations go towards purchasing equipment, funding programs like art and music therapy and supporting special projects. The responsibility of allocating unrestricted funds falls to theSociety’s voluntary Board of Directors who work closely with senior management to ensure that programs and projects that are top priorities receive funding.

Restricted Donations:

Family members, friends and those involved with New Vista on a regular basis often prefer having their hard earned dollars go towards enhancing an area which is home to a loved one, or completing a project in which they have a vested interest. If you would like your gift to be restricted for use in one of our five villages, or for one of our many special programs, please do not hesitate to contact us. We pledge to honour your wishes, and we remain accountable to our donors who select this option by sending them periodic updates on the area or project of their choice.

Memorial Gifts:

Memorial gifts are a meaningful way to honour friends and family members who are no longer with us. The Society welcomes gifts in memory of residents, clients, tenants, staff and anyone else who has touched the lives of the New Vista community. In addition to sending you a tax-deductible receipt for your contribution, we will forward a card to family members of the individual in question, notifying them of your thoughtful gift. We also list the names of those who have been celebrated in this fashion over the past year on our donor wall, located in the front lobby of the New Vista Care Home.

Gifts-in-Kind:

Donors who wish to support New Vista by providing us with equipment such as wheelchairs, washers and dryers, or furnishings like armchairs and tables are encouraged to contact us for further information. Please note that gift-in-kind donations are contingent on our need and the quality of the item(s) in question. All gift-in-kind donors will receive a tax receipt for the fair market value of the gift at the time of the donation.

Planned Giving:

One of the most popular and effective means of leaving a lasting legacy, planned giving involves donating a portion of your assets to your favourite charity. Whether it is by inserting a clause in your will, or by naming us as a beneficiary to your life insurance policy, there are many ways that you can continue to assist the seniors and families that rely on us for housing, care and support. Please contact us for more information on which planned giving option would work best for you.

Gifts of Securities:

Giving shares is a tax effective way to support New Vista. The tax advantage of donating publicly listed securities (i.e. shares, bonds or units of a mutual fund trust) directly to New Vista Society can make it much more cost-effective for you than giving a traditional cash donation.

The federal government has made tax changes to fully exempt the capital gains tax you would normally pay on the profits of selling publicly listed securities, providing you donate these securities directly to a registered Canadian public charity like New Vista Society. You will still receive a charitable receipt for the full market value of the donated securities, so this new change extends your tax savings even further. (Before this development, donors paid a portion of the capital gains tax when making a charitable donation of securities that had appreciated in value).

Donors wishing to speak to a Society representative are asked to call 604-527-6000 ext. 124.

Thank you for your interest in making a donation to the New Vista Society. We are truly grateful for your support, and we are pleased to offer you a variety of gift-giving options. Regardless of the option that you select, you will receive a tax-deductible receipt for every gift that you make to the Society.
